Red Sox Need Extra Frames to Get Past Twins
|
Minnesota first baseman Frank Thomas was sensational. He was 2-3 with 2 home runs and 2 walks, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice, but it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Boston beat the Twins, 7-4. Thomas was named the player of the game despite the loss. Boston, now 40-62, holds 5th place in the Federal League East Division.
Boston used the timely hitting of Rusty Greer to capture the win. The right fielder stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the 11th inning to put the Red Sox on top, 5-4. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but he made it count.
"I like how we battled to the end," said Greer.
