Cardinals Win in Glorious Fashion
|
The Cardinals had to overcome a good performance from New York pitcher Shawn Estes to claim a 4-3 win at Busch Stadium. Estes went 8 innings and allowed 3 earned runs. St. Louis reliever Steve Olin was the winner. His record is now 1-2. Andy Ashby took the loss. The last-place Yankees have dropped 10 straight games.
When he came to bat in the bottom of the tenth, Karim Garcia had a chance to end it. New York pitcher Andy Ashby had other ideas. But with no outs, Garcia hit a sacrifice fly. The Cardinals had the win.
"We didn't go down without a fight," said New York manager Patrick McQuail.
