Pirates Win at Chicago, 5-3
|
Pittsburgh Pirates starter Kevin Appier pitched effectively against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. The right-hander spearheaded his team's 5-3 win. Pittsburgh is now riding a 3-game win streak.
Pittsburgh used the bat of Craig Shipley to get the win. The left fielder hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Pirates ahead, 4-0. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it did its damage.
"Enjoyed this one," Shipley told the Pittsburgh Today. "But it's back to work tomorrow."
