Diamondbacks Squelch Tigers Offense in Shutout Win
|
Arizona starter Scott Sanders pitched effectively against the Detroit Tigers at Tiger Stadium. The right-hander led his team to a 3-0 win. Chuck Ricci got the save, his 1st in 2 chances. The first-place Diamondbacks, at 60-43, now lead their division by 3½ games.
Jeff Kunkel, who finished 5th in the FL in triples with 10 in 1986, helped out the Arizona cause in the top of the ninth inning with a 2-run home run. For the game, the center fielder went 1-3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.
"We put some tough at-bats on some tough pitches," said Arizona manager Alen Maglajac.
