Victory Pushes Mets Record to 58-46
|
Takehiro Ishii was superb against Arizona. The right-hander, who finished 3rd in the UL in wins with 18 in 1995, had a screwball that was virtually unhittable at times. The result was a 5-2 Mets victory. Ishii went 7.2 innings to notch the win. He scattered 3 hits, walked 4, and struck out 9. His record improves to 7-2. Mike Mimbs earned his 1st save in 1 chances.
One of the biggest contributors for New York was center fielder Sammy Sosa. In the bottom of the seventh, with a runner on 2nd, Sosa got a first pitch curveball and hit a 2-run home run. That put the Mets on top, 5-2.
"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said New York skipper Michael Kritikos.
New York, at 58-46, occupies third place in the United League East Division.
