Red Sox Continue Skid Thanks to Thomas, Twins
|
The Minnesota Twins beat the Boston Red Sox, 8-1, at Fenway Park. The Twins got a fine performance from first baseman Frank Thomas, who captured player of the game honors. He went 3-3 with a home run, 2 doubles, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. Pat Combs, who went 7 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 1 run on 5 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 4. His record now stands at 5-9. Minnesota has now won 3 straight, while the Red Sox have lost 4 in a row.
Brent Gates contributed a productive at-bat in the top of the second. With the bases loaded, he hit a sacrifice fly. It was one at-bat that propelled Minnesota to the win.
"Today was a lot of fun," said Gates.
