Van Slyke Hits 2 home runs in White Sox Win
|
The Chicago White Sox defeated the Cincinnati Reds, 5-2, at Riverfront Stadium. Chicago designated hitter Andy Van Slyke was named player of the game for his superb performance. He went 2 for 4 with 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. Jose Nunez went 6.1 innings for Chicago to pick up the win. The right-hander was charged with 1 earned run. He scattered 3 hits, while walking 5 and striking out 3. His record improves to 2-11. Steve Howe, credited with the save, is now 1 for 1 in save opportunities.
Van Slyke had no bigger at-bat than in the top of the first when the two-time Gold Glove winner hit a 3-run home run. The home run gave Chicago the lead, 3-0. It was his 6th home run of the season.
"We did enough to win," said Van Slyke.
At 38-68, the White Sox are currently last in the Federal League Central Division.
