Royals Trip Pirates in Extras
|
The Kansas City Royals beat the Pittsburgh Pirates, 8-7 at Three Rivers Stadium, in part due to shortstop Jeff Frye, who nabbed player of the game honors. He was 2 for 5 with a home run, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Mike Stanton picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 4-1. Carl Willis was tagged with the loss. Bobby J. Jones notched his 1st save in 1 chances.
Kansas City used the clutch hitting of Quilvio Veras to capture the win. The second baseman drilled a solo home run in the top of the 15th inning to put the Royals ahead, 8-7. It was his only hit in 6 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"If you want to be considered a good team, these are the kind of games you have to win," said Kansas City manager Daniel Drucker.
Kansas City has an impressive 72-32 record.
