Giles Helps Cardinals Run Win Streak to 6
|
Benefiting from Brian S Giles's productive game, the St. Louis Cardinals downed the Boston Red Sox, 11-9. Giles was 2-4 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 3 times and driving in 3 for the Cardinals. St. Louis reliever Mariano Rivera picked up the win, upping his record to 5-3. Roberto Hernandez absorbed the loss. Steve Chitren got the save, his 19th in 24 chances.
One of the biggest contributors for St. Louis was designated hitter Mo Vaughn. In the bottom of the eighth, with the bases loaded, Vaughn got a full count fastball and hit a grand slam. That put the Cardinals on top, 11-7.
"I believe in our guys," said St. Louis skipper Adam Rabel. "I like the energy they're playing with."
The winning streak has now reached 6 games for the Cardinals.
