Expos Get Close Win Over Athletics
|
The Montreal Expos eked out a 4-3 win versus the Oakland Athletics at Oakland Coliseum. Nobody did more than pitcher Jon Lieber, who captured player of the game honors. The winning pitcher was Lieber, now 5-4. He tossed 8 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 0 and fanning 7. Ken Howell got the save, his 29th in 35 chances.
It could have been a different outcome for Montreal, had it not been for Jose Hernandez, the former first round draft pick . Hernandez contributed a run-scoring double in the top of the ninth inning to put Montreal up, 4-3.
"I'd like to pile on a few more wins before the end of the year," said Lieber.
The Expos have an impressive 68-37 record.
