Minnesota second baseman Brent Gates was instrumental in his team's 7-3 win over the Cincinnati Reds. Gates, who finished 5th in the FL in batting average with .296 in 1993, went 1-2 with 2 runs scored to lead the offensive attack for the Twins. The Twins saw their record improve to 50-55.

Gates had a game-changing home run in the top of the ninth. On a 1-1 curveball from Arthur Rhodes, he banged a 2-run home run to left, giving the Twins a 5-3 lead. It was the 3rd home run of the year for Gates.

"We'll savor this win," Gates told the Minnesota Bulletin, "then get ready for the next game."
