Tigers Clip Pilots in Tight Contest
The Detroit Tigers eked out a 5-4 win versus the Seattle Pilots at Tiger Stadium. Nobody did more than pitcher Vaughn Eshelman, who captured player of the game honors. The win was Elmer Dessens's in relief. His record improves to 3-2. Greg McMichael took the loss for Seattle. Even with the win, the Tigers have a dismal 34-72 record.

Brent Mayne contributed a productive at-bat in the bottom of the sixth. With a runner on 3rd, he hit a run-scoring single. It was one at-bat that propelled Detroit to the win.

"Vaughn is still learning," said Tigers manager Julio Izquierdo. "The sky's the limit for him."
