Dodgers Subdue Washington, 6-4
|
The Los Angeles Dodgers topped the Washington Senators, 6-4, in United League action at Dodger Stadium. The player of the game was Los Angeles pitcher and Chicago Heights, Illinois native Bret Saberhagen. Saberhagen went 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 8 hits, walked 2, and struck out 11. His record improves to 11-6. Los Angeles is now 64-41, 2½ games up in the United League West Division.
Shane Mack went 1-3 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for Los Angeles. The three-time All-Star had a key at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 0-0 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Woody Williams. It was his 52nd RBI of the season.
"We'll savor this win," Mack told the Los Angeles News, "then get ready for the next game."
