Oakland pitcher Jason Bere did his part in helping his team beat the New York Mets, 3-2. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Bere picked up the win for Oakland, going 7 innings. He gave up 2 runs on 5 hits. He now sports a record of 1-1. Even with the win, the Athletics have a dismal 32-73 record.
The Athletics beat the Mets in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the two-out double David Justice produced in the bottom of the third. Batting against New York pitcher Frank Castillo, Justice gave his team a 2-1 lead when he hit a 2-run double.
"If I go out there and help the team win, that's all you can do," said Bere.
