Rangers Lose, 5-2, at Fenway Park
The Boston Red Sox defeated the Texas Rangers, 5-2, in Federal League action at Fenway Park, with Boston left fielder Barry Bonds named player of the game. Boston starter Mark Thompson was credited with the win after throwing 91 pitches over 6 innings. His record now stands at 5-6. The Red Sox improved to 39-68.

Bonds contributed a big hit, a 2-run home run, for Boston in the bottom of the first. With his team trailing 1-0, Bonds took a fastball from Kelly Downs and stroked the home run to left-center. His 21st home run of the season allowed the Red Sox to leap in front, 2-1.

"This level of focus will win us a lot of ballgames," Bonds said after the game.
