Nixon Slugs Cubs to 11-7 Win
The Chicago Cubs beat the New York Yankees, 11-7, at Yankee Stadium. The win was largely due to the efforts of right fielder Trot Nixon, who captured player of the game honors. He went 4 for 4 with 2 home runs, a double, and 2 walks, while scoring 4 runs and driving in 3. The win was credited to Mike Schooler in relief. His record improves to 3-3. Mike Henneman took the loss. Chicago, now 49-57, holds 5th place in the Federal League Central Division.

It could have been a different outcome for Chicago, had it not been for Rich Becker, the 25-year old center fielder . Becker contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth inning to put Chicago up, 8-7.

"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Nixon told the Chicago Daily.
