Giants Bang Out 10-7 Win Versus Oakland
|
The Oakland Athletics got a sterling performance from designated hitter Andres Galarraga, but the Giants still prevailed, 10-7. Galarraga was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He went 2 for 4 with 2 home runs and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. San Francisco reliever Mark Portugal got the win, raising his record to 2-0. Ken Hill was tagged with the loss. Xavier Hernandez finished the game for San Francisco and earned his 1st save.
The Giants got an important contribution from first baseman Carlos Baerga, who in the top of the third punched a 1-2 forkball into left for a bases-clearing double. It was his 3rd double of the season and put the Giants ahead, 4-1.
"I just try to see the ball and put a good swing on it," said Baerga.
San Francisco, now 8-2, is setting the league on fire so far.
