Orioles Win at Oakland, 4-1
|
Steve Avery never let the Athletics get in a groove. The left-hander used his bread and butter, his changeup, to pitch the Orioles to a 4-1 win. Avery picked up the win for Baltimore, going 6.2 innings. He gave up 1 run on 4 hits. He now sports a record of 10-6. Roger McDowell was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 14 of 18 save opportunities.
Baltimore used the bat of Bill Spiers to get the win. The second baseman hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the second inning to put the Orioles ahead, 4-0. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it did its damage.
"We'll relax tonight and enjoy this win," said Spiers.
Baltimore, now 47-59, holds 5th place in the United League East Division.
