Expos Get Road Win, 6-2
|
The Montreal Expos knocked off the Los Angeles Dodgers, 6-2. Montreal starter Mark Guthrie pitched well enough to earn top player honors. Guthrie, now 16-1, was the winner. In 9 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 6, walking 1, and allowing 2 earned runs. The first-place Expos have won 4 in a row.
Mike Sweeney, who is a two-time All-Star, aided the Montreal cause with a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth. For the game, the catcher went 1-1 with 2 walks.
"If I go out there and help the team win, that's all you can do," said Guthrie.
