Devil Rays Score Late, Upend Red Sox, 6-4
|
Orlando overcame a superlative game from Pete Harnisch to beat Boston, 6-4. The Boston pitcher took player of the game honors in a losing cause. He threw 7 innings of 2-hit ball. Orlando reliever Tommy Greene picked up the win, upping his record to 3-3. Doug Bochtler was saddled with the loss. Ken Ryan, credited with the save, is now 2 for 2 in save opportunities.
The Devil Rays got a big boost from left fielder John Elway who had a 2-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning off Red Sox hurler Pedro F. Borbon. It was his 1st home run of the season and put Orlando on top, 6-4.
"I like our moxie," said Devil Rays manager Ben Tennyson.
The third-place Devil Rays lifted their record to 59-49.
