The Cincinnati Reds did just enough to sneak past the Florida Marlins, 2-1, at Riverfront Stadium. Cincinnati pitcher Jose Rijo earned player of the game honors. The win was Doug Henry's in relief. His record improves to 6-6. Bryan Harvey took the loss for Florida. Cincinnati goes to 63-46, Florida to 66-43.

Contributing to the Cincinnati win was Fernando Vina. In the bottom of the 13th, the 1995 FL batting champion had a run-scoring ground out. That made the score 2-1, the Reds in front.

"Whenever we hold the other team to one run," said Reds manager Eric Deutsch, "I like our chances."
