Sun Rays Take Tight Tilt
|
Orlando starter John Smoltz pitched effectively against the New York Yankees at Orlando Citrus Bowl. The right-hander led his team to a 3-2 win. Smoltz, now 2-0, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 10, walking 3, and allowing 2 earned runs. The Yankees drop to 5-6 and continue their inconsistent start to the 1994 season.
With two out in the bottom of the eighth, Kirk Gibson stroked a go-ahead run-scoring single. It was his 11th hit of the season and put Orlando in front, 3-2.
"It's a mindset," said Smoltz. "Just trying to do your job, trying to be consistent."
