Giants Shut Out Athletics
|
The San Francisco Giants picked up a win at Candlestick Park, knocking off the Oakland Athletics, 5-0. Starting pitcher Mike Harkey was an essential part of his team's success. Harkey picked up the win for San Francisco, going 7.1 innings. He gave up no runs on 7 hits. He now sports a record of 12-9. Randy Myers got the save, his 24th in 28 chances.
Sandy Alomar Jr. had a big run-scoring double for the Giants in the bottom of the fourth inning. With San Francisco leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he got a fastball from Brian Holman and stroked the double to left. It was his 18th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Giants ahead, 2-0.
"We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling confident after that win," said Alomar Jr..
With the win, San Francisco goes to 59-50, while the Athletics fall to 57-52.
