Reds Continue Hot Streak with Extra-Inning Win
|
The rain at Fenway Park did not keep Cincinnati and Boston from finishing their game.
The Cincinnati Reds topped the Boston Red Sox by the score of 8-3, with the largest share of the credit going to second baseman Fernando Vina. Vina went 3-5 with a home run, a double, and 2 walks, while adding 5 RBI and scoring once for the Reds. Cincinnati reliever Mike Cook picked up the win, upping his record to 4-3. Paul Assenmacher was saddled with the loss.
The result might have been different for Cincinnati, had it not been for Matt Stairs. The designated hitter produced a run-scoring walk in the top of the 13th inning to put the Reds ahead, 4-3. For the game, Stairs had 1 double and 2 singles in 6 at-bats.
"It's always a heck of a lot easier to get to sleep after a win," Stairs told the Cincinnati Daily. "I know I'll rest easy tonight."
Cincinnati has 3 straight wins, Boston 3 straight losses.
