The New York Yankees grabbed a 8-6 win over the Cleveland Spiders at League Park. New York center fielder Jeff Kunkel went 2 for 4 with 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice to earn player of the game honors. The Yankees now have a record of 44-66 with the win over Cleveland.

With two out in the top of the fifth, Don Mattingly hit a go-ahead bases-clearing double. It was his 18th double of the season and with it the Yankees took a 6-3 lead.

"It was offense that won us the game," said winning manager Patrick McQuail.
