Cleveland withstood an impressive performance by Boston right fielder Todd Hollandsworth to defeat the Red Sox, 8-7, at Fenway Park. Hollandsworth was 2-4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He drove in 5 runs and scored once. Cleveland reliever Steve Karsay was the winner. His record is now 4-4. Mike Fyhrie took the loss. Cleveland has a 3-game win streak, while Boston has lost 3 in a row.
With one out in the top of the seventh, Kevin Mitchell put Cleveland in front, 7-6, with a 3-run home run. The Spiders went on to win the ballgame.
"This is a resilient bunch," said Cleveland manager Wilson Ogle.
