Oakland Athletics starter Matt Morris turned in a top-notch performance against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium. The result was a win for the Athletics, 2-1. The Athletics go to 49-60, putting them 5th in the United League West Division.

It could have been a different outcome for Oakland, had it not been for Jay Buhner, the 32-year old right fielder . Buhner contributed a 2-run home run in the top of the third inning to put Oakland up, 2-0.

"The old adage is true," said Morris. "Good pitching stops good hitting."
