Sun Rays Trip Pirates in Extras
|
The Orlando Sun Rays and Pittsburgh Pirates put on quite a show at Three Rivers Stadium.
The Orlando Sun Rays picked up a win at Three Rivers Stadium, knocking off the Pittsburgh Pirates, 7-3. Starting pitcher Hipolito Pichardo, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason why. Orlando reliever Steve Shirley picked up the win, upping his record to 3-3. John Franco took the loss.
Jay Buhner was 1 for 4 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 3 for Orlando. The 30-year old right fielder had a key at-bat in the top of the tenth. With no one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 3-3 tie with a run-scoring walk off John Franco. It was his 21st walk of the season.
"There's no quit in this team," said Sun Rays manager Ben Tennyson.
The Sun Rays, at 51-60, sit in third place in the Federal League East Division.
