Reds Edge Past Yankees, 7-6
|
The New York Yankees got a superb performance from first baseman Derrek Lee, but the Cincinnati Reds still won the game, 7-6. Lee was named the player of the game despite the loss. He was 2 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 4. The Yankees, at 39-70, have lost 4 in a row.
Cincinnati used the bat of Miguel Cairo to capture the win. The shortstop jacked a solo home run in the top of the 12th inning to put the Reds ahead, 7-6. It was his lone hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a dandy.
"Our team showed some gumption," said Cairo. "I like it."
