The inspired effort of Texas catcher Jorge Posada was not enough to prevent a 7-6 loss to the Chicago Cubs. Posada went 2 for 3 with a home run and a double, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. The winner was Frank DiPino in relief. His record improves to 5-4. Rob Murphy took the loss. The Cubs bumped their record to 66-45 with this latest triumph.

The Cubs got a lift from third baseman Scott Brosius, who in the bottom of the ninth stroked a 1-2 fastball into center for a run-scoring single. It was his 63rd hit of the season and put the Cubs ahead, 7-6.

Brosius said this kind of win gives the team "a buzz."
