|
In a low-scoring game between Detroit and Washington, pitcher Vaughn Eshelman was excellent. The Detroit left-hander was named the player of the game in Detroit's 3-1 win. The winning pitcher was Eshelman, now 7-9. He tossed 7 innings of 2-hit ball, while walking 4 and fanning 5. Even with the win, the Tigers have a dismal 36-75 record.
Detroit took a 2-1 lead on Shane Halter's 7th home run of the season. The solo home run came off Washington pitcher Andy Pettitte in the top of the seventh.
"The effort we put into this one paid off," Halter said.
