Orioles Sneak Past Senators, 6-5
|
Washington got a terrific performance from pitcher Woody Williams, but it wasn't enough to beat the Baltimore Orioles. Baltimore won the Memorial Stadium contest, 6-5. Williams was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 6 innings of 5-hit ball. Baltimore reliever Chuck Cary was the winner. His record is now 4-0. The losing pitcher was Todd Jones. The Orioles bumped their record to 59-52 with this latest triumph.
Alan Trammell put Baltimore in front, 6-5, when he took Todd Jones downtown. His 3-run home run came with no one out in the bottom of the eighth. It was his 14th home run of the season.
"It's always a heck of a lot easier to get to sleep after a win," Trammell told the Baltimore Daily. "I know I'll rest easy tonight."
