Cincinnati Reds starter Joey Hamilton turned in an exceptional performance against the Cleveland Spiders at Riverfront Stadium, resulting in a Cincinnati win, 6-1. The second-place Reds improved to 65-47.

Hamilton scattered 4 hits over 8.2 innings for the Reds. With the win, Hamilton goes to 8-7 on the year with 116 strikeouts.

"We're in a marathon, not a sprint," Hamilton said in postgame remarks. "Soon enough, the finish line will be in sight."
