Red Sox Solve Marlins, 5-2
|
Boston and Florida put this game in the books despite some rain.
The Boston Red Sox picked up a win at Fenway Park, knocking off the Florida Marlins, 5-2. Starting pitcher Eric Plunk played a key role in the triumph. Roberto Hernandez notched his 8th save in 12 chances.
The Red Sox got a big at-bat from left fielder Barry Bonds. For the game, Bonds was 1 for 2 with a home run and 2 walks, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the first, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 29th home run of the season gave Boston a 2-1 lead.
"We did a lot of things right," said Plunk.
The win puts the Red Sox at 43-69, while the Marlins drop to 66-46.
