Orioles Trip Senators in Extras
|
Washington got a terrific performance from pitcher Livan Hernandez, but it wasn't enough to beat the Baltimore Orioles. Baltimore won the RFK Stadium contest, 4-3. Hernandez was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 7 innings of 4-hit ball. Roger McDowell, credited with the win, is now 4-8. He allowed 1 run on 4 hits in 2 innings. Jeff Nelson, credited with the save, is now 2 for 2 in save opportunities.
It could have been a different outcome for Baltimore, had it not been for Matt Nokes, the seven-time All-Star . Nokes contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the 11th inning to put Baltimore up, 4-3.
"We squandered some opportunities," said Washington manager Alexander Cumana.
Baltimore, at 49-62, occupies 5th place in the United League East Division.
