McGwire Helps Tigers Run Win Streak to 3
|
Mark McGwire left his imprint on the 7-6 Detroit win against the Washington Senators. McGwire, who finished 3rd in the UL in slugging percentage with .565 in 1990, was 3 for 3 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 3 runs. Detroit reliever Carl Willis was credited with the win, to go to 8-3. Vince Horsman took the loss for Washington. Detroit has a 3-game win streak, while Washington has lost 3 in a row.
Tony Fernandez, who finished 5th in the UL in triples with 11 in 1985, aided the Detroit cause with a run-scoring ground out in the bottom of the seventh. For the game, the shortstop drew 2 walks.
"I like the grit of this ballclub," McGwire said.
