Olerud Helps Athletics Run Win Streak to 5
|
Behind the bravura of first baseman John Olerud, the Oakland Athletics topped the Los Angeles Dodgers by the score of 11-6. Olerud was 1 for 3 with a home run and 3 walks. He scored 2 times and drove in 4 for the Athletics. Oakland reliever Kirk Rueter was credited with the win, to go to 3-4. Rudy Seanez took the loss for Los Angeles. Oakland has now won 5 straight.
The Athletics got a big boost from right fielder David Justice who had a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning off Dodgers hurler John Franco. It was his 78th hit of the season and put Oakland on top, 7-6.
"I was able to barrel up some pitches," said Olerud.
