Tigers Walk Off with 9-8 Win
The Detroit Tigers and New York Mets obliged those fans who came to Tiger Stadium hoping for nail-biter.

The Detroit Tigers knocked off the New York Mets, 9-8, at Tiger Stadium. Tino Martinez, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason Detroit won. The first baseman went 3-6 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. Detroit reliever Mark Brandenburg got the win, raising his record to 1-0. Jim Bullinger was tagged with the loss.

Detroit took a 9-8 lead on Shannon Stewart's 10th hit of the season. The run-scoring single, which Stewart hit in the bottom of the 12th, left New York pitcher Jim Bullinger shaking his head.

"Put a star next to this win," Stewart said.

The Tigers are off to a tough start, getting just their 3rd win in 11 games.
