Blue Jays Double Up New York, 6-3
|
The Toronto Blue Jays downed the New York Mets, 6-3, at SkyDome. The Blue Jays were led by Lyle Mouton, who captured player of the game honors. He was 2 for 4 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Toronto starter John Smiley was credited with the win after throwing 102 pitches over 6 innings. His record now stands at 1-2. Antonio Osuna closed the door for Toronto, picking up his 1st save of the year.
Mouton came through with some timely hitting for Toronto. With the score 3-0 in the bottom of the third and two down, Mouton hit a 2-2 fastball for a 3-run home run. His 1st home run of the season made it 6-0, Toronto.
"If it's down the middle," said Mouton, "you might as well hit it."
The win takes Toronto to 6-5.
