Sun Rays Stymie Boston, Take 3-1 Win
|
The Orlando Sun Rays got a good effort from starter Jimmy Key in defeating the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park. The final score was 3-1. Key, now 9-9, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 8, walking 2, and allowing 1 earned run. The Sun Rays saw their win-loss record go to 52-61. At the same time, the Red Sox fell to 41-72.
The Sun Rays got an important contribution from catcher Ivan Rodriguez, who in the top of the eighth knocked a 0-1 curveball into left for a solo home run. It was his 14th home run of the season and put the Sun Rays ahead, 3-1.
"That's the key at this level, throwing strike one," said Key. "Successful pitchers do it."
