Tigers Get Road Win, 7-6
|
The Detroit Tigers topped the Toronto Blue Jays by the score of 7-6, with the biggest share of the credit going to first baseman Mark McGwire. McGwire was 2-4 with a double, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for the Tigers on the day. Vaughn Eshelman, who went 5 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 6 runs on 7 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 2. His record now stands at 10-11. Detroit is now 51-61, Toronto 65-49.
McGwire had a key at-bat for Detroit early in the game. With runners on 1st and 3rd, he hit a run-scoring double. It was his 12th double of the season and gave Detroit an early 1-0 lead.
"I had some good swings out there," said McGwire.
