The New York Mets defeated the Baltimore Orioles, 3-1, in United League action at Memorial Stadium, with New York pitcher Takehiro Ishii named player of the game. Dan Plesac got the save, his 14th in 16 chances. New York is now riding a 3-game win streak.

Ishii earned the win, going 8 strong innings for New York. The right-hander allowed just 3 hits, while striking out 9. Baltimore hitters had little success against him.

"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" New York manager Michael Kritikos said.
