Senators Prevail, 5-4, Over New York
|
The first-place Washington Senators picked up another win at RFK Stadium.
The Washington Senators did just enough to sneak past the New York Mets, 5-4, at RFK Stadium. Washington pitcher Andy Pettitte earned player of the game honors. Troy Percival got the save, his 19th in 25 chances.
Alex Rodriguez, who is tied for 6th in the UL with a .566 slugging percentage, aided the Washington cause with a run-scoring walk in the bottom of the seventh. For the game, the shortstop drew 2 walks.
"If you want to be considered a good team, these are the kind of games you have to win," said Washington manager Alexander Cumana.
Washington is now 72-42, 4 games up in the United League East Division.
