Red Sox Fall to .500 After Loss to Pirates
|
The Pittsburgh Pirates topped the Boston Red Sox by the score of 8-2, with the largest share of the credit going to second baseman Carlos Baerga. Baerga went 4 for 6 with 4 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once for the Pirates. Doug Drabek was the winner. Over 7.2 innings, he allowed 2 runs on 6 hits, with 1 walk and 6 strikeouts. Pittsburgh's record now stands at 59-55, placing them third in the Federal League East Division.
Baerga had a game-changing single in the top of the sixth. On a first pitch fastball from Julio Valera, he banged a 2-run single to left-center, giving the Pirates a 3-1 lead. It was the 137th hit of the year for Baerga.
"We'll relax tonight and get back after it tomorrow," Baerga said after the game.
