Spiders Jolt Yankees with Late Rally
|
Despite a great performance by New York first baseman Derrek Lee, the Cleveland Spiders defeated the Yankees by the score of 7-6 at Yankee Stadium. Lee was 3-4 with 3 singles and a walk, while scoring 2 times. The win was credited to Roger Pavlik in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Lee Smith took the loss. Steve Karsay earned his 25th save in 38 chances.
Kevin Mitchell had an important at-bat with one out in the top of the ninth, when he hit a grand slam home run. His 33rd home run of the season put Cleveland on top, 7-6.
"I like the grit of this ballclub," Mitchell said.
At 56-59, the Spiders find themselves in 4th place in the Federal League East Division.
