Pirates Take Nail-Biter Over Yankees
|
Pittsburgh Pirates starter Chris Hammond pitched a strong game against the New York Yankees at Three Rivers Stadium, leading the Pirates to a 2-1 win. The Yankees, now 45-70, have lost 4 straight.
Tied up with the Yankees in the bottom of the 16th inning, the Pirates got a boost from third baseman Craig Shipley. With the bases empty, Shipley saw a 3-1 curveball from Eric Plunk and hit a solo home run to break the stalemate and put Pittsburgh on top, 2-1.
"Exhilarating win," said Hammond.
