McGwire Slugs Tigers to 8-6 Win
The Detroit Tigers defeated the Washington Senators, 8-6, at RFK Stadium today. Leading the charge for Detroit was first baseman Mark McGwire. He hit 2 home runs. He drove in 5 runs and scored twice. Doug Drabek was the winning pitcher. Over 8 innings, he allowed 6 runs on 7 hits, with 4 walks and 6 strikeouts. Even with the win, the Tigers have a dismal 39-74 record.

Contributing to the Detroit win was Dave Hollins. In the top of the seventh, the 29-year old first baseman had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. That made the score 7-5, the Tigers in front.

"It's nice to come out on top today," said Hollins.
