The San Diego Padres topped the Arizona Diamondbacks, 3-2, in United League action at Bank One Ballpark. The player of the game was San Diego pitcher and Kansas City, Missouri native Andy Ashby. San Diego is now 55-60, while Arizona is 59-56.

The Padres got a big boost from pinch hitter Mike Lieberthal who had a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning off Diamondbacks hurler Danny Patterson. It was his 11th hit of the season and put San Diego on top, 3-2.

"Nice to see our side come away with the win," Ashby said after the game.
