Expos Need Extra Frames to Get Past Orioles

The Montreal Expos faced a tough opponent in Baltimore pitcher Dwight Gooden, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Memorial Stadium by a final score of 4-3. Gooden went 6.2 innings and allowed 1 earned run. Montreal reliever Ed Correa was the winner. His record is now 1-0. Roger McDowell took the loss. Mike Jeffcoat recorded the save for Montreal, his 2nd of the season.
Montreal used a timely hit from Raul Mondesi to get the win. The left fielder delivered a run-scoring triple in the top of the tenth inning to put the Expos on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Montreal manager David Polakoff.
Montreal, at 9-3, is off to a blistering start.
