The Cincinnati Reds got a superb performance from third baseman Scott Rolen. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Kansas City. The Royals won the game, 9-6. In spite of the loss, Rolen was named the player of the game. He went 2 for 3 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 3 times and drove in 3. Kansas City improves to 73-42 with the win. They lead their division by 4 games.

The Kansas City win was a team effort. It included major contributions from, among others, Andruw Jones. In the top of the eighth, the Kansas City center fielder came to bat and hit a 2-run double. It staked his team to a 6-4 lead.

"I still think this team has room for improvement," Jones told the Kansas City Chronicle.
