Senators Bridle Giants, 3-1
The Washington Senators went home winners at Candlestick Park, thanks in large part to starter John Burkett. Burkett silenced the San Francisco Giants, enabling Washington to grab the 3-1 win. The winning pitcher was Burkett, now 7-11. He tossed 7 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 8. Even with the win, the Senators have a dismal 36-79 record.

The result might have been different for Washington, had it not been for Jarvis Brown. The center fielder produced a run-scoring double in the top of the sixth inning to put the Senators ahead, 2-0. For the game, Brown had 1 double and 1 single in 2 at-bats.

"I felt we were ready to go," said Washington manager Alexander Cumana. "Our pregame was pretty good."
