Florida and St. Louis duked it out at Joe Robbie Stadium and the Marlins came out victorious.
In a tight game between the Florida Marlins and the St. Louis Cardinals, pitcher Kevin Appier was terrific on the mound. The Florida right-hander was named the player of the game in Florida's 2-1 win. Bryan Harvey earned his 34th save in 36 chances.
Appier made it look effortless. He scattered 4 hits over 8 innings, while racking up 11 strikeouts. The Florida right-hander encountered little resistance from the St. Louis hitters. His season record is now 16-7.
"Getting ahead of the hitters was the key," said Appier.
Florida improves to 70-46 with the win. They lead their division by 3 games.
