At Kingdome Gary Sheffield smashed his 300th career home run in a game against Seattle today. The 27-year-old shortstop had a hand in the New York Mets 6-3 victory with 1 home run and 1 RBI. For the day he went 1 hit-3 at-bats.

At the press conference after the game, Sheffield downplayed his achievement.

"To reach 300 home runs is amazing and something I'll always cherish. I've been fortunate to remain healthy and play at a high level through most of my career."

His career numbers show Sheffield is currently carrying a .268 lifetime batting average with 300 home runs and 808 RBIs.
