Blue Jays Edge Athletics, 4-3
|
Oakland got a terrific performance from pitcher Jason Bere, but it wasn't enough to beat the Toronto Blue Jays. Toronto won the Oakland Coliseum contest, 4-3. Bere was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 7 innings of 4-hit ball. Toronto reliever Curt Brown picked up the win, upping his record to 6-2. Kirk Rueter absorbed the loss. Antonio Osuna notched his 6th save in 13 chances.
Will Clark, who finished 2nd in the FL in OPS with .959 in 1989, aided the Toronto cause with a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth. For the game, the first baseman was 1 for 3 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.
"If you want to be considered a good team, these are the kind of games you have to win," said Toronto manager Jose Mata.
Oakland has now lost 4 consecutive games.
