Royals Prove Rude Guests, Win 8-2 at Florida
|
Kansas City beat Florida on the strength of starter Rheal Cormier's fine effort. The left-hander led his team to a 8-2 win. Cormier went 9 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 0, and struck out 4. His record improves to 12-5. Kansas City is now 70-48, 3 games up in the Federal League Central Division.
With runs few and far between, the Royals had to seize their opportunities when they came. One of the most important chances for Kansas City came in the top of the first inning, when center fielder Andruw Jones delivered a 3-run home run. The home run was hit off Al Leiter and made the score 3-0, Royals. Jones was 1-5 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once.
"Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," Jones told the Kansas City News.
