Tigers Win at Toronto, 6-2
|
Fans brought energy and enthusiasm to the Toronto Blue Jays home opener. John Smiley started for the home team against Marty Bystrom for the Detroit Tigers. The Blue Jays were unable to reward the home crowd with a win. The final score was 6-2, Detroit. John Smiley was named player of the game. The save went to Francisco Oliveras, his 1st this season.
Detroit relied on the bat of Carlos Quintana to get the win. The second baseman ripped a solo home run in the top of the second inning to put the Tigers ahead, 1-0. For the game, Quintana had 1 double and 1 home run in 4 at-bats.
"We'll enjoy this win," said Quintana. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."
