Padres Beat Visiting Senators, 6-1
|
The San Diego Padres downed the Washington Senators, 6-1, at Jack Murphy Stadium. The Padres were led by Jim Edmonds, who captured player of the game honors. He went 4-4 with a home run and 3 singles. The winner was Mark Langston, who threw 90 pitches over 5.1 innings. The left-hander was charged with 1 run on 2 hits. The 'W' lifts San Diego's record to 51-65.
Wil Cordero had a big run-scoring double for the Padres in the bottom of the fourth inning. With San Diego leading 2-1 and a runner on 1st, he got a fastball from John Burkett and stroked the double to right. It was his 6th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Padres ahead, 3-1.
"Enjoyed this one," Cordero told the San Diego Gazette. "But it's back to work tomorrow."
